Preventative Dental Care

Posted on March 6, 2018

Wisdom teeth removal has become one of the most common dental procedures in the world. Nearly 85% of adults have had theirs removed to protect their oral health. These “third molars” that form in our early teens and twenties often cause damage to surrounding teeth as they grow in. Even if they grow in cleanly, they can still attract bacteria that cause infection in the mouth. Waiting often makes the issue worse, so the best time for removal is sooner rather than later.

Wisdom teeth take time to form and settle into your mouth. In most young teens, the root has not fully formed, making removal easier. Given more time, however, they will take root in the jaw, making extraction more difficult and painful. Rather than waiting until your wisdom teeth make work, school, or your social life more difficult, schedule a removal as soon as you possibly can.

At Woodstock General & Implant Dentistry, we assess your condition and help you take care of your wisdom teeth on your schedule and at the best possible time so that they don’t interfere with your life.

This is a routine treatment at our facility and can be completed in quickly and easily with conscious sedation. An initial x-ray will determine the placement of your wisdom teeth and whether they’re impacted or not. Non-impacted wisdom teeth can be removed simply, and even impacted wisdom teeth can be handled with a minimum amount of discomfort.

Your extraction surgery will be completed in a single visit, and your gums are closed to heal. The healing process is brief and can be stimulated with warm salt-water rinses, ice packs (for swelling) and over-the-counter pain relievers. You’ll be able to resume your daily activities in no time at all and you’ll never have to worry about your wisdom teeth again!

Avoid potential oral problems in the future by scheduling an appointment with Woodstock General & Implant Dentistry today!
